Why Medical Data Breaches Are Worse
Ever wonder why there seems to be surge in healthcare data breaches these days?
Well, when your medical or financial records get stolen, they get sold on the black market. But unlike financial records, you can’t “cancel” your medical like you could with a credit card. Malicious hackers knows and this and as a result, stolen medical records are valued more on the black market than financials.
Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do as a patient to protect your medical records. For now, you just have to hope your provider is following industry security best practices and your records don’t get swooped up like the 10.5M records that were affected in the recently reported Excellus BlueCross BlueShield hack.
