Biggest Challenge for Healthcare: Security and Privacy
Wow, it’s great to see the problem of healthcare security and privacy get some of the spotlight (check out this article). Some of the key points from the article:
- Criminals are targeting healthcare, because healthcare records can fetch up to $40/record whereas credit cards go for $1
- Healthcare security as a whole is immature, making them easier targets
- You can’t “cancel” your healthcare records, making recovering from a data breach that much harder for you as the patient
The sad thing about the whole industry is that data breaches are almost too common now, so I don’t get the feeling that organizations really care (that is until something hits the fan).
