Millions of Parents and Children Get Hacked: Lessons CEOs Can Learn

December 18, 2015

VTech the maker of children’s toys got their systems hacked which allowed a hacker to download thousands of photos, voice recordings and chat logs of 6.4 million parents and children. A couple lessons were highlighted from the article that I thought were pretty good, they were:

  1. “Taking security seriously is something you need to do before a data breach, not something you say afterwards to placate people”
  2. Too much data was accessible too easily
  3. Most companies are now tech companies (whether they like it or not) and so comes new responsibilities
  4. While the hack is over, the repercussions could live on for years
